Daniel Caesar
Grammy-winning artist blends faith, roots, and R&B on upcoming album, out October 24 via Republic Records.
Daniel Caesar has never been one to play it safe; since breaking out with Freudian in 2017, the Toronto-born singer has made a career out of walking the tightrope between spiritual devotion and late-night desire, bedroom ballads and church hymns. Now, two years after his last project, Caesar is ready to step into a new chapter, and he is stepping back into the spotlight with his first full-length project in two years. The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter has announced his new album, Son of Spergy, arriving October 24 via Republic Records. To mark the occasion, Caesar has dropped a new single, “Call on Me,” a track that nods to his Jamaican roots while weaving in the spiritual references that anchor the upcoming LP.
The song follows Caesar’s earlier release, “Have a Baby (With Me),” and together they sketch the outlines of a record that promises to be both deeply personal and adventurous. Where “Have a Baby” leaned into tender romance, “Call on Me” raises the pulse, mixing smooth melodies with rhythmic patterns that echo Caribbean tradition.
Son of Spergy marks Caesar’s first project since 2023’s Never Enough, a record that cemented his status as one of R&B’s most ambitious voices. The rollout for Caesar’s new album has been anything but conventional—fans first caught wind of Son of Spergy when he dropped a cryptic video-letter on socials earlier this year. The project was fleshed out further in his Billboard cover story, where Caesar sat down with Tyler, The Creator to talk career arcs, their creative chemistry, and Caesar’s work on Tyler’s 2024 opus CHROMAKOPIA.
Between albums, Caesar has been inescapable. He dropped a surprise two-track with Rex Orange County (Rearrange My World / There’s A Field [That’s Only Yours]), a reunion that reminded fans just how much magic happens when those two share a mic. He also turned up on “The Field,” a sprawling cut from Blood Orange’s forthcoming Essex Honey, alongside Caroline Polachek and The Durutti Column. And then there’s pop’s biggest name: Justin Bieber. Caesar co-wrote, produced, and sang on “DEVOTION” (featuring Dijon) from Bieber’s 2025 album SWAG, one of the record’s emotional standouts.
From the start of his career, Caesar has made music that feels both celestial and grounded, weaving gospel, soul, and alternative R&B into a singular language. With Son of Spergy, the singer seems poised to dive deeper into questions of faith, identity, and heritage — while still delivering the kind of melodies that have soundtracked weddings, heartbreaks, and late-night drives worldwide.
For now, “Call on Me” offers a taste of what’s to come: a song that’s both prayerful and playful.
