Muse
Three years after Will of the People marked yet another defiant chapter in their genre-hopping legacy, Muse return today with their electrifying new single, “Unravelling”—a thunderous and theatrical reentry that finds the trio at their most urgent, unhinged, and unapologetically massive.
Released via Warner Records, “Unravelling” opens with eerie, arpeggiated synths that twist and build like a storm on the horizon, before the track explodes into a tsunami of barbed guitars, pounding rhythms, and frontman Matt Bellamy’s unmistakable falsetto cutting through the chaos. It’s a song that lives up to its name—both musically and emotionally—as Muse pull at the threads of tension and power, culminating in a chorus that feels like it could shake the foundations of any festival field.
Produced by Dan Lancaster—whose work with Bring Me The Horizon and Blink-182 has often straddled rock’s evolving edges—the track balances Muse’s maximalist bombast with a fresh, synth-driven menace. Lancaster also joins the band onstage for live shows, adding extra muscle and texture to their ever-expanding sound.
“Unravelling” received its live debut in the most Muse way possible: first, as a surprise at their intimate warm-up gig in Helsinki’s House of Culture, and then for a massive crowd of 50,000 at Rockfest in Finland on June 14. Fans had already been speculating after the band dropped cryptic teasers online in the days leading up to the release—and the song’s eventual unveiling has confirmed what many suspected: Muse are not mellowing with age, but recharging their fire.
The new single arrives as the band kicks off a string of international festival headline shows, starting tonight with Hellfest in France, before continuing to major stages across Europe, including Pinkpop (Netherlands), Tons of Rock (Norway), STHLM Fields (Sweden) and Open’er Festival (Poland). The tour then winds through Mad Cool (Spain) and NOS Alive (Portugal) in July.
Since forming in 1994, Matt Bellamy, Dominic Howard, and Chris Wolstenholme have built a reputation as one of rock’s most fearless and inventive bands—fusing prog, glam, metal, classical, and electronic influences into a sound that’s always unmistakably Muse. With over 30 million albums sold worldwide, a staggering seven consecutive UK #1 albums, and accolades that include two GRAMMY Awards, five MTV Europe Music Awards, and eleven NME Awards, the band has never shied from reinvention or revolution.
“Unravelling” isn’t just a new single—it’s a reminder that Muse remain one of the most vital, ambitious forces in rock music. Equal parts apocalyptic and anthemic, it’s built for stadiums, built for catharsis, and built to be played very, very loud.
