Hayley Williams has just released her latest music video for “Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party,” a lush, funky track from her recent batch of 17 new singles. The Paramore frontwoman, who’s been on a creative roll, made her hometown of Nashville the focal point of the video, which was directed by longtime collaborator Zachary Gray. The visual captures Williams wandering the streets of Nashville, dipping into touristy bachelorette hotspots, and even belting out karaoke while a downcast expression lingers over her. Tennessee State Rep. Justin Jones makes a cameo, adding a layer of local flavor to the clip.
Though Nashville is the backdrop for much of the video, the lyrics speak to some internal conflict, particularly with lines like “I’ll be the biggest star at this racist country singer’s bar,” which hints at her complicated relationship with the city’s country music scene. Williams has made no secret of her feelings on the recent trend of country musicians opening large, flashy bars in Nashville—calling it a “hard pass” on all of them. When asked about her least favorite of the bunch, Williams didn’t hold back, providing a glimpse into the kind of bar referenced in the song.
Williams’ decision to release 17 individual singles rather than a cohesive album is an unexpected move but one that has been met with curiosity and excitement. The tracks, which were written and recorded by Williams and produced by Daniel James, span a variety of styles, from the Americana-tinged “Whim” to the sardonic synth-pop of “Ice in My OJ.” These songs mark a fresh chapter in Williams’ solo career, following her previous albums Petals for Armor (2020) and Flowers for Vases / Descansos (2021).
Though the singles aren’t officially an album, Williams has made it clear that the collection will have a physical release. In a recent Instagram post, she reached out to fans, asking for their help in curating the tracklist, emphasizing the importance of physical media in today’s digital world.
For fans of her solo work, this collection promises an eclectic mix of introspective moments and playful experimentation, with a blend of both intimate and larger-than-life sounds. The full set of 17 singles is now available on all streaming platforms, offering listeners a deep dive into Williams’ ever-evolving artistry.
Meanwhile, Paramore continues to make waves with their 20th-anniversary edition of All We Know Is Falling, which now includes the Summer Tic EP for the first time digitally. For Williams, whether with Paramore or on her own, it’s clear the music keeps coming, and it’s always an exciting ride.
