Award-winning singer-songwriter Tom Odell has just dropped “Ugly”, a brutally honest single that digs deep into his struggles with self-image and body shame. The powerful, guitar-driven track is a bold exploration of vulnerability, with Odell peeling back the layers to confront feelings that many are reluctant to voice.
In a statement, Odell shared the difficult yet powerful sentiment behind the song. “Something I’ve never really talked about is some of my own weird shame around my body, and it feels so uncomfortable to actually say that in a song,” he confessed. “But when you say it, it’s really fucking powerful.” The track reflects on the paradox of self-perception, touching on the sense of alienation that comes with looking at others seemingly gliding through life with ease. “Ugly” illustrates how the real experience of living is often fraught with emotional turbulence and imperfection.

The English singer-songwriter has previously shared that A Wonderful Life was inspired by the ceaseless, often harrowing news cycle that fills our daily lives, contributing to a pervasive sense that the world is on the brink of collapse. In Odell’s own words, the news delivers “the sense, almost every week, that the world is ending in some capacity – which it is, for some people.
”To support the album, Odell is embarking on a European arena tour, which began in August and will continue with performances across the continent beginning September 29 through December 4. The tour includes stops at some of Europe’s most populated cities, and fans can purchase tickets for the shows now. Odell’s North American tour is set to follow in September.
