Sombr
Rising alt-pop sensation prepares to take the world by storm with his highly anticipated debut LP, featuring collaborations with Tony Berg and fan-favorite tracks
Sombr, the breakout alt-pop artist who’s quickly become a household name, has announced the release date for his long-awaited debut album I Barely Know Her, dropping on August 22 via Warner Records. This 10-track collection is set to solidify the 20-year-old artist’s meteoric rise, following an incredibly successful year marked by chart-topping singles, sold-out tours, and viral festival performances.
Written entirely by Sombr (born Shane Boose), I Barely Know Her showcases his signature blend of emotional depth and genre-defying production. The album was co-produced by Sombr alongside legendary producer Tony Berg (Phoebe Bridgers, Boygenius, The Replacements), ensuring a polished, dynamic sound that brings together elements of alt-pop, funk, and indie-rock. I Barely Know Her will feature previously released hits such as “Back to Friends,” “Undressed,” “12 to 12,” and “We Never Dated,” alongside new tracks like “Under the Mat,” “Crushing,” and “Dime,” all of which demonstrate Sombr’s growth as both a writer and a producer.
Sombr’s breakout moment came with his viral hit “Caroline” in 2022, and his rise has been nothing short of extraordinary. Since then, he’s accumulated more than 2 billion streams across platforms and earned recognition on the MTV VMAs, with nominations for Best New Artist and Best Alternative for “Back to Friends.” Tracks like “Back to Friends” and “Undressed” have charted on the Billboard Hot 100, with “Back to Friends” peaking at No. 31 and “Undressed” reaching No. 25.
Notably, his single “12 to 12,” released earlier this year, continues to climb the charts, with an official music video co-starring TikTok sensation Addison Rae, adding another level of viral buzz to his already electric fanbase. Sombr’s creative honesty and raw emotion are key to his appeal, and he’s one of the few artists able to balance authentic songwriting with mainstream pop success.
In a statement about the album, Sombr shared, “My music is resonating because it came from my heart. I feel lucky that people connect with it on such a deep level. All I want to do is keep writing and touring and serving my supporters for the rest of my days. That’s what gives me purpose.”
To celebrate the album’s release, Sombr will embark on a highly anticipated North American tour this fall, with sold-out dates across cities like Boston, New York, Washington D.C., Atlanta, and Los Angeles. The tour will extend globally, with stops in New Zealand and Australia in late 2023, followed by a European arena tour in the spring of 2024.
As the New York City native continues to break boundaries and redefine alt-pop, I Barely Know Her is set to mark a defining moment in his career. Fans can pre-order the album now and look forward to an unforgettable year ahead.
