Aron!
Aron! Is Making Jazz Sexy Again
At just 22 years old, aron! has managed to pull off something rare: make jazz feel both timeless and urgently of the moment. The North Carolina-born singer, songwriter, guitarist, and pianist released his debut EP cozy you (and other nice songs) earlier this summer on Verve Records, and today he unveils his first appearance on Mahogany Sessions, delivering tender, stripped-down versions of “table for two” and “i think about you lots.” The set radiates the warmth and charm that have already made aron! one of the most intriguing young voices in modern jazz-pop.
The six-track EP, filled with vintage romanticism and disarming sincerity, has already drawn praise. The Line of Best Fit hailed him as proof that “jazz isn’t just alive, it’s evolving.” Wonderland described the project as “nostalgia fuelled and quietly charming.” The LA Times went full swoon, calling his music a ticket “to a bygone era where love is everywhere.” Even John Mayer is gushing on SiriusXM, describing Aron!’s EP as “frothy and invigorating.”
That sense of old-world elegance comes naturally to aron!, who has spent much of his life studying and inhabiting the canon of jazz and classical greats. Raised in Charlotte, NC, on a steady diet of Pearl Jam and Led Zeppelin courtesy of his parents, it was Guitar Hero that first pushed him to pick up an actual instrument. From there, a chance encounter with an octogenarian jazz instructor opened a door into an entirely different world of music. By high school, aron! was crooning Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra standards in retirement homes, bow tie and all.
His formal studies deepened his craft: classical composition at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and later jazz voice and film scoring at the University of Miami on a full scholarship. Along the way he absorbed Chopin, Ravel, and Bach, while also testing his chops in indie-pop with his band Sunny Side Up! By 2023, he had honed what he calls his “cozy pop” style—a mix of jazz phrasing, singer-songwriter intimacy, and vintage pop appeal—that caught the attention of Verve Records.
cozy you (and other nice songs) is the culmination of that journey. Songs like “eggs in the morning,” “i think about you lots,” and “table for two” are unabashedly romantic, little vignettes of everyday intimacy delivered with a wink and a velvet touch. “My songs are little vignettes from my life,” aron! explains. “To me, ‘cozy’ is the perfect word for the vibe of this project. Hopefully, you’ll think so too!”
That balance of virtuosity and authenticity defines aron! as much as his music. When he’s not onstage or in the studio, he can be found on long walks, eating pho and ramen—his near-exclusive diet—or watching Gilmore Girls.
The Mahogany Sessions performance captures this spirit beautifully. In its minimalist setting, stripped of ornamentation, aron!’s voice and playing shine with an intimacy that recalls the great crooners of the past while feeling distinctly modern.
With millions of streams already to his name, a major-label debut under his belt, and co-signs from critics and musicians alike, aron! is quickly establishing himself as a singular figure in today’s music landscape—someone who reminds us that love songs still matter, that intimacy is worth celebrating, and that jazz, in the right hands, is not only alive but blooming anew.
