After a seven-year hiatus, Good Charlotte are officially back. The pop-punk legends have released their long-awaited eighth studio album, Motel Du Cap, out now via all major streaming platforms. More than just a comeback, the record marks a bold and surprisingly personal evolution for a band that helped define a generation.
Formed in 1995, Good Charlotte still boasts its original core lineup: Joel Madden (lead vocals), Benji Madden (guitar, backing vocals), and Paul Thomas (bass), alongside longtime members Billy Martin (guitar) and Dean Butterworth (drums). Despite their legacy, Motel Du Cap doesn’t play like a victory lap — it’s a full-throttle reboot.
“This isn’t about nostalgia,” Joel Madden told Rolling Stone AU/NZ. “We just love this band — and we had something to say again.”The idea for the new record sparked at an unlikely place: a family wedding in the South of France. “It was a perfect night,” Madden recalled. “We were all hanging around and then we were like, ‘Should we make a record?’ And everyone was like, ‘Actually, I think we could fuck shit up if we made a record.’”Co-produced by Jordan Fish (ex–Bring Me the Horizon) and Zakk Cervini (blink-182, Yungblud, Simple Plan), Motel Du Cap was largely recorded live in the studio — with many tracks captured in raw, first-take form. It’s a record that merges the anthemic punch of The Young and the Hopeless with a newly sharpened sense of vulnerability.
Lead singles “Rejects” and “Stepper” previewed this hybrid sound, but the full album goes further, embracing genre fusion without losing the band’s signature grit. Guest features span the spectrum: rapper Wiz Khalifa lends his laid-back flair to “Life Is Great”, TikTok breakout Zeph brings dreamy edge to “Pink Guitar”, while Luke Borchelt and Petti Hendrix add emotional depth to “Deserve You” and “Vertigo” respectively.
Written by the Madden brothers with Mattias Bylund, Motel Du Cap channels raw riffs, inner truth, and wide-open creativity. It’s their most personal work yet — a portrait of a band that’s grown up but never grown stale. To celebrate the release, Good Charlotte will host a fan Q&A and album signing at Rough Trade Below in New York’s Rockefeller Plaza this Friday at 3 p.m. They’ll also hit the stage this fall at Oceans Calling in Maryland and Aftershock in California, with a global arena tour set for 2026.
Thirty years since forming, Good Charlotte are not simply back — they’re reborn. Stream Motel Du Cap now.
