Matteo Bocelli and Lionel Richie
Matteo Bocelli continues to chart his own path with a heartfelt new collaboration — this time, bridging generations of Italian musical heritage. Today, the international recording artist released a duet with legendary singer-songwriter Gianluca Grignani: a reimagining of Grignani’s 1995 No. 1 hit “Mi Historia Entre Tus Dedos,” out now via Decca Records.
The song, originally featured on Grignani’s seminal album Destinazione Paradiso, became a European chart-topper and a beloved ballad throughout Latin America. Three decades later, it finds new life in the voices of Bocelli and Grignani — the former representing a new wave of international stardom, the latter an enduring icon of Italian pop-rock.
“This kid has a truth in his voice,” Grignani said of Bocelli. “A talent that can’t be taught. When he wrote to tell me he wanted to record one of my songs, I smiled. And when he invited me to go on stage with him, at the Teatro del Silenzio, to sing it together… well, I couldn’t say no.”
The collaboration was born earlier this year after Bocelli reached out to Grignani to express his admiration and request permission to record a cover of the song. Instead, the two decided to take it further — joining forces in the studio to create a new duet version, recorded in June. Last month, they debuted the track live at Tuscany’s Teatro del Silenzio — the prestigious annual concert founded by Matteo’s father, opera titan Andrea Bocelli. The moment marked Matteo’s first-ever solo headlining performance at the storied venue, making the duet all the more poignant.
The release offers a taste of Bocelli’s upcoming second album Falling In Love, out September 12. Following his 2022 self-titled debut, which introduced the world to his unique blend of classical technique and contemporary style, the new album promises to deepen that fusion, featuring both original songs and bold reinterpretations.
Set against sweeping instrumentation and sung with stirring emotional clarity, “Mi Historia Entre Tus Dedos” becomes more than a nostalgic tribute — it’s a multi-generational meditation on heartbreak, connection, and the enduring power of melody.
As for what’s next: Bocelli is set to launch a fall world tour, including three intimate UK dates in November (Manchester, Nov 2; Birmingham, Nov 4; and London, Nov 5). It follows a string of high-profile performances — from sold-out shows at the Sydney Opera House to appearances for President Biden and King Charles III.
With Falling In Love, Matteo Bocelli isn’t just following in his father’s footsteps — he’s carving a path that’s entirely his own.
