Released on 25 September 1995, 1. Outside (The Nathan Adler Diaries: A Hyper-Cycle) confounded expectations. At a time when Britpop dominated the UK charts and alternative rock was redefining mainstream music in America, Bowie reunited with Brian Eno—not to revisit the celebrated Berlin trilogy, but to dismantle his own creative process and build something entirely new.
